As someone with an extensive list of food allergies, there are few things I love more than coming across a new exciting superfood that works with my diet restrictions. One of my favorite recent finds is Chyawanprash- a nutritious jam that has actually been used in Ayurvedic medicine for thousands of years. Chyawanprash is made from a powerful combination of antioxidant-rich forest fruits and healing herbs to create a delicious jam that is also loaded with nutrients.

According to the story, Chyawan was a very old sage, but with the use of this potent tonic of Ayurvedic herbs, he regained his youth and vitality. In the main Ayurvedic text, Charaka Samhita, Chyawanprash is regarded as something that “nourishes the weak, the wounded, the old, and those that are of tender years as well." It is also mentioned that after using Chyawanprash, “a person acquires intelligence, memory, comeliness of body… longevity, strength of the senses, great pleasure in the companionship with women, great increase in the strength of the digestive fire, improvement of the complexion, and the restoration of wind to its normal course."
