Complement cherished moon rituals and set up for a good night’s sleep with this whimsically cozy, plant-based blue moon milk! Incorporating fresh blueberries and our ORGANIC INDIA Tulsi tea adds antioxidant properties, delightful fruity notes, and floral fragrance to this lovely take on the classic. Better yet, whisking in our ORGANIC INDIA Shatavari lends restorative, balancing support perfect for unwinding while breathing in the peaceful night sky.

What is Moon Milk?

A staple soothing beverage in Ayurveda, moon milk is a blend of milk and herbs considered an elixir to promote rest. While dairy alternatives can’t replicate the content of sleep-inducing tryptophan contained in cow’s milk, warm plant milks can most certainly have the same calming effect, particularly in a serene concoction like this one. The antioxidant action of blueberries have been shown to be beneficial in supporting sleep quality melatonin; they even contain small amounts of melatonin, the hormone aiding in sleep. Our ORGANIC INDIA Shatavari completes the package for inner balance and peace.

An Ayurvedic herbal supplement for women that supports healthy hormone function, Shatavari is best known for supporting women’s wellness and vitality; though it is also associated with supporting men’s health with all-around hormonal support and balance. Considered a rasayana and adaptogen, Shatavari rejuvenates the spirit, relaxes the mind, and fortifies the body.

2 servings

Ingredients:

  • 2 ORGANIC INDIA Tulsi Hibiscus tea bags (or another variety)
  • ½ Cup boiled water
  • 1 ½ Cups unsweetened oat or other plant milk of choice
  • ½ Cup fresh or frozen blueberries
  • 1 Teaspoon ORGANIC INDIA Shatavari
  • ½ Teaspoon ORGANIC INDIA Ceylon Cinnamon
  • ¼ Teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ¼ Teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 Tablespoons pure maple syrup or other sweetener to taste, optional
  • To serve: dried lavender, additional spices, edible dried rose petals, additional blueberries, optional

Method:

  1. Steep ORGANIC INDIA Tulsi tea bags in the boiled water 5 minutes to make a concentrate.
  2. Place plant milk and berries in a blender and combine until smooth. Strain through a fine mesh sieve into a small saucepan.
  3. Warm the milk over low heat until it comes to a light simmer, then whisk in the tea concentrate, Shatavari, nutmeg, vanilla, and sweetener to taste. Froth if desired.
  4. Pour your blue moon milk into serving mugs and serve as is or topped with a sprinkling of dried lavender, or spices

Notes:

  • Iced: For a refreshing riff in warmer months, blend all the ingredients together and pour over ice!
  • Alternate Tea Base: For this moon milk twist, we like to mix in our ORGANIC Tulsi Hibiscus tea for its delicate floral flavor and splash of berries. That said, other flavors meld just as beautifuly—try our Tulsi Cinnamon Rose or Tulsi Original for a slightly different flavor profile and just as much dreaminess.

Relaxation for a good night’s sleep shouldn’t come just once in a blue moon, and with dreamy concoctions like moon milk, it doesn’t have to.
