Bacopa: Herb of Grace

Used for centuries, Bacopa is a beloved Ayurvedic herb  also called “Brahmi,” after the god Brahma, the creator god and supreme intellect of the universe.

The ancient Vedics classified Bacopa monniera as a “Medya Rasayana,” or “rejuvenator of the intellect.” The herb was used to bless newborn babies as it was believed it would enhance intelligence. A staple in Ayurvedic medicine, Bacopa is an ingredient in many Ayurvedic tonics and formulas.

Bacopa Benefits: Body and Mind

Ayurveda views Bacopa as having intellect-enhancing properties — in modern language, we call Bacopa a “nootropic,” meaning it may support healthy brain and nervous system function. Research studies have identified a relationship between Bacopa and reduced inflammation in the brain’s pathways. The Vedics used the herb to improve cognitive function, and to reduce anxiety.
