You know it’s going to shake the whole room awake and shock people out of their inner sanctuary, and yet – what to do?! Sneezes can’t be stopped! Or can they…

Well, good news - there is an app for that – an application that you can use to stop the sneeze in its tracks. Now, normally, it is healthy to let those sneezes out at full force; our bodies want to release something that it sees as foreign and irritating. But sometimes sneezes can come at the most inopportune moments. And wouldn’t it be nice to have a choice in the matter?

Here’s the trick: Bring your hand up to your nose and place one finger on one side of your nostril (in the upper part of the indentation) and another finger on the other side of your nostril, at the same point. There are specific points here – they feel concave if you press on them – these are the colon meridian exit points in acupuncture. Interestingly, the colon is paired with the lungs in Chinese Medicine, so it makes sense that this would work. To prepare ahead of time for that next embarrassing sneeze, you may want to find these points now so you aren’t searching for them during that moment of yoga bliss.

Hold your fingers on these points, pressing firmly, until the need for the sneeze dissolves. It’s as simple as that!
Of course, you can do this at any time – during a wedding or sacred ceremony, during a meeting, or during the quiet critical scene of a movie. But there is one thing to warn you about– you will look a little funny.

So you have to weigh the pros and cons – is it better to look funny or is it better to let out that jolting sneeze? Sometimes you can do the trick in a discreet way, by bending your head down or turning away from the crowd.

You can even try a more advanced technique that may or may not work – this one takes some practice. In this case you would mentally place your fingers on the points and press. Give it a try and see if it works. And if not, keep practicing. It is worth it in the end to be able to do this, so that you can stop the sneeze and avoid the awkward looks from the people around you.
