Seven Steps to Self Love

Love starts from within. By loving ourselves first, we allow that love to expand to others, to our communities, and to the world. Self-care practices and self love go hand in hand. Self care is extremely important as a constant reminder that we are okay just the way we are, that we are good enough right here, in this moment. Below are seven self-care concepts that can help encourage a healthy lifestyle of self love.

1. Drop the expectations.

Regardless if you are single or hitched, holidays like Valentine's Day are often filled with expectation. If these expectations are not met, feelings of disappointment, resentment, and sometimes anger tend to arise. Instead of holding onto expectation, why not use this day and month as an opportunity to set some new goals for yourself? Goals don't have to be big, but rather small, attainable goals that can help you feel empowered towards personal growth. The premise is that you can only rely on yourself for happiness. Build yourself up and create reasonable goals that you can easily achieve.

2. Steer clear of the comparison trap.

Among other things, the advent of social media has made comparing ourselves to others a daily occurrence. Sometimes we don't even realize that we are judging others, as well as harshly judging ourselves! If this resonates with you and had you stressed out, why not take a break from social media? Allow yourself the freedom to focus inward without being bombarded with the events of others' lives. Instead, pick up a good book, go for a long walk, and do something that brings joy to your heart. Remember that your life is full.

3. Make a gratitude list.

Be your own Valentine! Instead of focusing on what you do not have, celebrate the things you are grateful for! Do you have a roof over your head? Is your rescue dog your sweet companion? Come to the present moment and write down everything that brings you joy. You will be amazed at how powerful this activity is. Get more tips on gratitude journaling here.

4. Take time for tea.

One of the easiest ways to pamper yourself on Valentine's Day is to relax with a cup of tea. ORGANIC INDIA Tulsi Tea acts as an adaptogen; protecting the body from stress, while helping to balance out mood and promote tranquility. I recommend trying Tulsi Sweet Rose or Tulsi Cinnamon Rose. These delicate floral tea blends will have you feeling fresher than a bouquet of roses!

5. Help somebody in need.

One of the easiest ways to feel better when you are down is to help somebody else (up). Some ideas regarding helping others: volunteer at a local homeless shelter, walk your elderly neighbors dog, or donate to a Go Fund Me that resonates with your soul. Whatever it is, focus on selfless acts of love and kindness. After all, the world needs more of it!

6. Have an in-home spa day.

You don't need to spend a fortune on fancy beauty and skincare products! You can simply use ingredients that you have in your own kitchen! ORGANIC INDIA has many DIY recipes for skin care regimen's free from artificial ingredients, additives, and preservatives. Be sure to check out the Sweet Rose Sugar Scrub recipe! You will feel pampered and your skin will glow!

7. Make a vision board.

Humans are visual creatures. Making a self-love vision board is one of the easiest ways to remind yourself of life's blessings, as well as the importance of self love. A vision board is a collage of photos, words, magazine images; any visuals that inspires you. The power here is to hang the vision board somewhere you will see it everyday. Fill your board with sweet messages to yourself, pictures of places you've been, people you love, and accomplishments you have achieved, as well as places you want to go, goals you want to reach, who you want to grow to be, etc.

Meditate on all that you have done and realize how far you can go. A positive future already exists inside you!
