A Brief History

In the 1990s the ORGANIC INDIA founders witnessed wide-spread devastation caused by attempts to industrialize India’s agriculture with chemical pesticides, fertilizers, and genetically engineered seeds.

They shared a deep wish to bring these health-supporting herbs to the world by partnering with farmers to:

  • Recover traditional agricultural wisdom
  • Begin the environmental regeneration of thousands of acres of farmland and forest
  • Establish a new business model based on responsible economic, social, and environmental principles and fair trade-based farmer partnerships

Working with Ayurvedic and Western physicians, they learned of herbs and formulas that support a healthy response to environmental and physical stress.

The result of that vision has been the economic and cultural revitalization of rural farm communities with 3,000 farm partnerships as well as community health care, education, and inclusive social change for women.

Dr. Junger, Medical Director of Organic India

Our Medical Director

Dr. Junger, a board certified Los Angeles-based cardiologist, is the author of the New York Times bestseller “Clean: The Revolutionary Program to Restore the Body’s Natural Ability to Heal itself.” Dr. Junger is also the founder and formulator of the Clean Program.

A Uruguayan-born cardiologist and Functional Medicine practitioner, Dr. Junger works with patients seeking to restore the balance of health. He completed his postgraduate training in internal medicine at NYU Downtown Hospital and a fellowship in cardiovascular diseases at Lenox Hill Hospital before studying Eastern medicine in India.

When Dr. Junger was diagnosed with multiple ailments, none of the traditional treatments that he was prescribed solved his issues. He went on a journey to explore other medical systems, and discovered Ayurvedic medicine.

In July 2019, ORGANIC INDIA’s Lucknow factory received India’s first LEED Platinum certification for a natural food production facility. LEED is the acronym for “Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design,” and was developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) to promote and encourage the design and construction of energy and resource efficient buildings optimized for human health.
