A Brief History
a love story
In the 1990s the ORGANIC INDIA founders witnessed wide-spread devastation caused by attempts to industrialize India’s agriculture with chemical pesticides, fertilizers, and genetically engineered seeds.
tulsi – holy basil
At the same time they learned about the health supporting characteristics of Holy Basil, also known as Tulsi.
a common goal
They shared a deep wish to bring these health-supporting herbs to the world by partnering with farmers to:
Recover traditional agricultural wisdom
Begin the environmental regeneration of thousands of acres of farmland and forest
Establish a new business model based on responsible economic, social, and environmental principles and fair trade-based farmer partnerships
Working with Ayurvedic and Western physicians, they learned of herbs and formulas that support a healthy response to environmental and physical stress.
The result of that vision has been the economic and cultural revitalization of rural farm communities with 3,000 farm partnerships as well as community health care, education, and inclusive social change for women.
