Pushkarmool: Respiratory Support
Called “Inula racemosa” in Latin, Pushkarmool was noted in ancient Ayurvedic texts for its ability to support healthy respiratory function. Native to India and Nepal, this small, flowering plant grows between 5,000 and 14,000 feet in the Himalayas. Pushkarmool is an ingredient in a classical Ayurvedic formulation called Punarnava Mandoor. This herb has also been called “Kasari,” meaning “enemy of cough.”
Pushkarmool Body and Mind Benefits
In Ayurvedic medicine, Pushkarmool has been used as a tonic to support those with the symptoms of breathlessness, cough, and pleurisy – it has even been used to treat hiccups. According to one paper, it has been used in Chinese medicine as an expectorant, and as a tonic for animals. Researchers have explored the application of this plant as an antifungal, antibacterial, and analgesic agent.
